Meghan Gerety's wall-sized
graphite drawings concern the Western landscape and her immersion
in the history of modern and contemporary painting. Grounded
in the spirit of Abstract Expressionism, both the scale and
composition reference the gestural energy of such Action Painters
as Jackon Pollock and Franz Kline, while her process recalls
the drawings of Vija Celmins. Based on photographs collected
from her travels, Gerety's 'landscapes' fuse the spiritual with
the physical, marrying the worlds of natural and artificial,
real and unreal.
